Walking Soccer at Bourkevale Community Centre

What is Walking Soccer?
Walking soccer is a modified, low-impact version of soccer that requires players to walk instead
of run and prohibits physical contact. Many of us who have been passionate soccer players quit
playing because of injury or need for avoidance of injury. Walking Soccer is the evolution of
regular soccer to enable continued lifelong participation.
It is a great way for people who love soccer but have age or mobility restrictions to continue
playing as it focuses on fun and fitness rather than competition. That said, there are inter-
provincial games and Canadian walking soccer teams competing internationally. Key rules often
include a no-contact policy, a ban on running, and limitations on how high the ball can be
kicked.
Walking Soccer is growing rapidly in the UK. Canada’s major cities have thriving walking soccer
clubs, GTA has several clubs each exceeding 300 members. But the sport is in its infancy in
Winnipeg.

If you’re fit enough to walk fast you can play! If you used to play soccer but quit or if you have
never played soccer but are interested, contact me. If there is sufficient interest, I can arrange
an introductory training session to develop skills and understanding of the game.

To kick off with a good attendance I would like to contact everyone who has an interest and
discover best times for them to play and with sufficient interest arrange groups according to
prior history and anticipated level of competition. Goal is to start in June ASAP.
